Unit 3 Blog

1.                  Based on your reflections, and on a scale of 1 to 10 (ten being optimal wellbeing), where do you rate your A-physical wellbeing, B-spiritual well-being, C-psychological well-being? Why?

My physical well- being I would have to say I am a 2 because I have many health issues that I am dealing with every day.
My spiritual well-being I have to say I am a 8. I do have faith, but sometimes I feel like I don’t have the spiritual aspect to help me through the health issues.
My psychological well- being I am a 5 because I am very depressed because of the situations I am currently facing.

2.                  Develop a goal for yourself in each area (physical, spiritual, psychological).
Goal for physical: I would try to maintain and be able to live with the constant pain I am in.
Spiritual: I have to have a positive attitude and belive in my faith that it woll help me through.
Psychological: I need to try to have a positive attitude and work on depression.
3.                  What activities or exercise can you implement in your life to assist in moving toward each goal?
I can implement some meditation and relaxation techniques to help through the stress.

4.                  Complete the relaxation exercise The Crime of the Century. To hear this exercise, click here. Describe your experience. (What it beneficial? Frustrating? etc.)
I did the relaxation exercise but I was unable to focus on the exercise.  I think the reason I was unable to focus on the exercise is because I have AADD and I am on no medicine for this, so I was unable to focus and actually relax.  I did enjoy the tape and it was very interesting, and I do wish I was able to focus. I will try it again in a different atmosphere and see if that will work.

  1. It sounds like you have a lot to deal with in your life and I'd first like to say, I am very sorry that things are not going well for you (I know that won't fix any of your problems, but I just wanted to say it). It saddens me to read how much you are dealing with and different health problems your having to go through. I think many people, including myself, take "good health" for granted. I have two younger children and I couldn't imagine either one of them being in constant pain and having to deal with different health problems.
I definitely think you're right, that keeping a positive attitude will truly help you through these hard times. (Even though I know it's a lot easier said than done.) But if you know that you need to stay positive, that, in itself will help you too.
I think, whatever health issues you're going through, support groups are out there. There are so many different kinds, I'm sure you could find one where you could go and listen to other people who are going through the same thing, or have gone through it before. There you would be able to get help and advice from others, along with support, and you would also be able to talk about your own feelings and emotions regarding your problem. It is better to get it all out, than to keep it bottled up inside.

I wish you the best and hope things get better for you.

  2. It appears that you have a few concerns that are important to you and how it affects your life. I would recommend that you listen to music and try to find some serenity in the music to help you with finding a spiritual and inner quiet place to assist you with becoming more focused.

  3. Jean,
Thanks for sharing with us your thoughts on this week's blog. It sounds like you are going through alot in your life right now. I have been there done that and its never fun. The best thing you can do is try to be positive through it all and have faith and tell yourself that you will get through it. Listening to music is a good technique to use to help with stress and relaxation. I find that one a good one to use whenever I am dealing with stressful times in my life. I would recommend trying to stay as positive as you can through this whole thing and know that you will get through it. Anything is possible if you just believe. Thanks again.

  4. Hi Jean,

We all feel like we are stressed in one way or another until we read about someone who isn't quite as lucky as we are in maybe areas of emotional or physical health. I feel bad that you are having struggles, but, as the saying goes, "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger." Keep the faith strong and lean on your family and friends when you need them. They will pull you through.

  5. Jean,

I really appreciated your comment about going back to review the exercise afterwards because you were perhaps struggling with a fit of AADD. I had to do the exact same thing (not because of AADD) and I realized that while there is indeed great times for you to get some relaxation in, there are also some not so good times go get your focus on relaxation in.

Once I got focused and gave it another go it was very cool. And I actually appreciated the Rainbow reference! Hope you ended up finding it interesting!

  6. Jean,

I can truly relate to your physical well being, as I to suffer from a variety of illness that just thinking about them get me down and de-motivated. Isn’t it funny how something so simple as our mind can make us be in a great mood and hopeful and just in a blink of an eye turn things sour and sad for us?

In a way I was hoping this class could truly start to help with not just my mood and feelings, but truly begin healing my body from the inside out. I suffer from Narcolepsy, among other things, and must take medicine to stay awake and semi-focused and I that may be why it is such a challenge for me to actually practice what is being said instead of trying to think ahead during the recording.

If you take all of the “if you dream it you can achieve it” to heart and so far in this class, it is amazing to find that there is truly a physical connection and not just a bunch of mumbo jumbo hype to it, I may start sticking noting my bedroom wall for a daily reminder that I AM WORTH IT! Hugs to you.
